How we use your information

CAS collects and uses personal information strictly for conducting the business and activities of the club. Examples of this are membership renewals, notifications of events, updates to facility access codes.

CAS does not provide members information to third parties with the exception of The Astronomical League (AL).

As a member of CAS, you are also enrolled as a member of The Astronomical League, the umbrella organization for amateur astronomy clubs. This allows members to receive the benefits afforded by the AL, such as participation in observing programs. CAS furnishes member names, mailing addresses and email addresses for the purpose of receiving the AL’s publication The Reflector. No members’ financial information is provided to the AL. This information shared with the AL and once shared becomes subject to the privacy policies of the AL. If I member wishes to opt-out of the AL, the may do so by contacting the CAS membership chair at membership@cinastro.org

The CAS membership chair maintains a roster of all members with their contact information. Members are asked to opt-in to our public membership roster upon joining. Any member wishing to contact another member who has opted out of this roster may do so through the CAS membership chair.

Our email list

All members are subscribed to the CAS email distribution list upon joining, Individual members email addresses are not revealed when delivering email communications from the club. Members may follow the instructions at the bottom of each email to opt-out of the mail list. However this will cause the member to stop receiving important announcements about club business and events. Members will still receive emails regarding membership renewals.

At times, committee chairs may contact groups of members who volunteer to participate in group activities such as public outreach and cleanup crews. These emails may reveal members’ email addresses to other members on these communications.
